The Chattahoochee is extremely important to Georgia overall. It is a huge shipping route beginning in Northern Georgia and along the Georgia-Alabama border. It was incredibly important to the first European settlers. Dams have been constructed to control water flow and create hydroelectric power. The entire state depends on the Chattahoochee River- and it flows right though Suwanee! There are lots of disputes between Georgia, Alabama and Florida concerning how much of the river's resources each state gets.
