The University of Georgia was founded in 1785, and its first class graduated in 1801. The University celebrates the bulldog as its mascot and is a whopping 706 acres. Louisville was the state capital from 1796 to 1807. When people from South Georgia began moving up northwards, Louisville began to thrive. Its main industries are cotton and tobacco. The Methodist Church began to sweep through the state, and everyone began practicing it. Four main associations were created and lasted in Georgia. The Baptist Church became very popular as well. It also had many associations and conventions, however, many independent and different ways of practice began popping up as well.
