The Woodland tradition took place in 1000BC-1000AD. Woodland people began practicing permanency. They ate maize, beans, and squash. They began designing mounds and practicing some sort of religion. They lived in sturdy houses and used mounds for ceremonial purposes. They probably built the Rock Eagle Effigy Mounds and the Kolomoki Mounds. They began building permanent shelters and using clay for vases and vessels. Their pottery was more useful, with a lid that could store necessary items longer. They used decorations more than the Paleoindians and the Archaic people. They also used the bow and arrow more.
